Congratulations and kudos are in order to our in-house, all-volunteer restoration crew for completing the monumental task of replacing a major component of the locomotive's stack, in addition to other updates, in an expedited and professional manner. Climb aboard Shay No. 5 and enjoy the view as cars are switched around the Cass yard. At 114 years old, Shay No. 5 is our oldest Shay locomotive at the Cass Scenic Railroad. This historic locomotive was delivered brand new to Cass in November 1905 and has never been retired! She has the distinction of being the oldest Shay in operation worldwide.
